Language is beautiful

Language is a beautiful thing. I can’t imagine what our world would be like without language. We are able to effectively communicate with everyone around us in such a complex way that we would not be able to do without language. We have thousands of words to describe something and multiple words or phrases to express the same idea. For example, you could talk about a cat by also saying the word kitty. Our world today is so advanced due to our ability to communicate with each other and become skilled in different areas. All of the technology that we are able to produce and learn would not be here if we did not have a way to learn new things from each other in such a complex way. It is possible to live a life without language. Ildefonso did it for 27 years but once he was introduced into language he was so perplexed by it that he was itching to learn more every day. The joy on his face when it finally clicked in his head that there are words for everything and this is how we communicate with each other was probably a priceless moment to observe. Language is powerful enough that we can influence each other in a positive or negative way. Sometimes violence will strike is the wrong words are said at the wrong time to the wrong person. Language can bring us joy or sadness as well. We could hear something on the news about a tragic event that occurred and it could shock the whole country and leave millions of people in remorse. Language has also been powerful enough to stick around since it was created. We still speak the same language that was spoken in this country thousands of years ago. It changes over time and that is the beauty of language.

  1. I think of language as the way we express or communicate what should be said. About half, sometimes more, we do not say what is on our minds, which is usually kept best. But, in that spur of the moment, the heat of moment, that courage, that burning desire, you say what's on your mind, you wave at that cute boy, or smile at a person walking by, you answer that question truthfully or not, you have a conversion, and you tell that boy you’ve always liked him since you were young or that you actually hate his guts. You say you want more food, or less, these examples show how language is the effective way to communicate. Whether it be body or verbal language, language is how we express ourselves and how we effectively communicate with each other, it's quite beautiful to think. In my experience, you won’t know something unless you ask, you won’t like something, unless you ask, you won’t get more food, unless you ask. Basically without effectively communicating with each other, we won’t know how to talk to people, or create relationships. Language is an art and its effectiveness is what makes the world communicate with each other, forming these amazing relationships and bonds.

  2. Language is a mesmerizing thing when we really think about it. The way we convey things such as feelings with either many words or just a few we can still get our feelings across to another person. Words help us communicate sometimes our most deepest and heartfelt thoughts. When we our telling our long time crush of who knows how long how we really feel our words help us send those feelings that are deep inside us to them. When your in the moment we can't help what comes out of our mouths but what does come out is what we really feel or have felt for a long time in that moment. We can describe with words in more detail what we feel sometimes we think that words can't describe what we feel but maybe we just don't what that right word is. As humans we are afraid of uncertainty and the unknown but with words we can over come what we fear we can ask for help from people, we make new friends using words. Words matter because without them we wouldn't be able to relay to those around us how we feel. We may not ever know all the words that there are in the world. I honestly don't think there really is anyone who knows all the words and the things such as feelings and emotions that these words can convey. What I do know is that without words my life and how I describe it to people would be a lot more dull without all these incredible words that we have.

  3. Language in all of its beautiful uses have so much success as it traveled and evolved with us through time. I agree with as time goes on, all the new technology allows us to communicate and use language more efficiently and complex. Yet though Ildefonso lived without language for 27 years I don’t believe his life had the same significance before he discovered language in communication. As it clicked in his head that all things had names, he dove head first into language. He became so enthralled with learning this language that he even said himself that he couldn’t remember life before he learned language. This proves that learning the names for things and complex language concepts makes one able to think in a more complex way. In the poem, Robert Hass explains this concept very well, he uses the imagery of words such as “blackberry”, “clown-faced”, and “pumpkinseeds”. These words are mixed with the eloquent words like “querulous” creates a more fulfilling poem and storyline, the audience can more vividly imagine the scene the author creates through this language. Language is powerful in our everyday life and as we evolve it evolves with us, it lets us be able to communicate more effectively with the rest of the world.

  5. Language has the remarkable ability to bring together groups of people and gives a platform for their thoughts.Sometimes words fail us, in times of immense emotions they always seem to be just out of reach and if they are found they arent the right magnitude. To me this is a telling sign that language, although useful in many ways, doenst answer to emotions. Robert Hass had the same feeling of linguistic deficiency when he was making love, he lacked the words to define his emotions and instead he longs for his home and defining moments of his childhood. Jill Taylor experienced the same thing when she had her stroke, language didnt exist to her but her emotions did, so emotions transcend language. All emotions are the same regardless of culture, language, race, creed. These examples illustrate that language isnt omnipotent and communication isnt as effective because profound emotions create linguistic barriers. So the deeper the emotions, the greater the difficulty to articulate. Im not trying to disparage language, it offers us the ability to create wonderous works of art but it always falls short when it comes to emotions.

  6. Language is a luxray that many of us take for granted, it allows us as human being to become something more spectacular, then are other living surroundings by allowing us to come together a species. Language in theory is a simple task, its just sounds that are made with the vibrations within the mouth, but they play such a key part in our everyday lives. In many ways are words are linked to our emotions, when were mad, we say harsh things, and when were happy we tend to talk in a positive way, but many emotions can't always be described using words. If i were to ask you to describe "falling in love",would you be able to and feel as you were giving an accurate repestation of it? This is the same question i feel Robert Hass was trying to figure out, the reason is that the complexity of emotions far out weigh that of language. We can control our language, i can make myself say something that i truly don't believe in or that i don't want to, but emotions are different, you can't control your emotions, if you fall for your best friends girlfriend, you can't control it, no matter how much you wish that you had no feelings for her, emotions won't let you. Yes, language is a powerful thing, but it could never out due the true beauty of emotion.

  7. Language can be an explicit thing. We either say what's on our minds or we don't say anything at all. To people , Language is an everyday thing. It come to them. You don't have to think about it ,especially if it's the language you learned growing up. Imagine a world without language. It's a gift. Not that many people appreciate it. Language is like a wave of power. It comes and goes. You can express your emotion with words , I think that's what we need to express ourselves. I'm very grateful to have language in my life. For example , the 2016 election. It's a very controversial thing. But the candidates use their words to sway us to follow them. But we use our voice to agree or disagree. We can use it to our advantage. Yeah yeah I know , our candidates are not the candidates we were dreaming of. But we have the right to help and make our government a better one with the power of our voices and languages. We use our emotions to dictate what we say and how we say it.

  8. I believe language, among other the methods of communication, is what sets humans apart from everything else. Language is a beautiful form of communication, and from what I've noticed, it seems to be the most affective. However, like Dana I believe that language might become a lost art. Eventually getting over shadowed by new forms of electronic communication. Even though we would still communicate effectively, we as humans would no longer have what sets us apart from everything else.
